The difference

Text to video makes everything from your prompt, including how the first frame looks. Image to video starts from an image you give it and makes that image move.

When image to video is better

  • You need a specific product, character or place.
  • You already made a still you like.
  • The clip has to match other images in a campaign.

When text to video is fine

  • Quick ideas and tests.
  • Abstract or atmospheric shots.
  • When the exact look matters less than the movement.

A good workflow

Make the still first, get it exactly right, then animate it. Fixing a still is cheaper than making a clip again.

Questions

Can I give a start and an end frame?

Some models take both. The guide on start and end frames explains how.

Which is cheaper?

Each model shows its price; the still you make first costs extra but saves remakes.
