The best AI image generator for readable text

A wooden typesetter tray full of metal letterpress blocks, one row of blocks lifted out and lit.

Posters, packaging, social posts and logos: the AI image models that set real type, and which one to use when.

Most models only draw letter shapes

Most image models approximate the shape of letters, which is why a headline comes back with one word misspelled. A few set real type. For anything with words on it, those are the only ones worth paying for.

The ones that set real type

Each of these is strong at text, for a slightly different job.

  • Ideogram for posters and logos, with edits that leave the rest alone.
  • GPT Image 2.5 for a long brief with several lines of text you do not want to fix.
  • Nano Banana Pro for packaging and ads where the text has to survive a client review.
  • Seedream 5 for dense layouts and infographics, and for text in fourteen languages.
  • Qwen Image for clean text with your own LoRA on top.

Put the words in quotes

Write the exact text between quotation marks and say where it goes: "a poster with the headline 'OPENING NIGHT' at the top". Short text sets better than a paragraph, and one font described plainly works better than a list of styles.

Small text is still where every model slips. Check every word before it goes to print.
